Clothe Yourself at Lucky Girl
I'm beyond excited for the Lucky Girl Pop Up this Saturday. These kinds of pop ups are a great experience for so many reasons - being part of a fun (if slightly hectic) shopping environment, having the opportunity to visit a bunch of difference vendors and learn about makers you didn't even know existed, and finally, participating in our growing Winnipeg community of artists and makers.
I'm so looking forward to checking out each and every one of the 20+ vendors, but today, I wanted to focus on a few of my favourites. These are the ones to check out for unique and well-made pieces to put on your bod. From underthings to jewelry, it is possible to literally clothe yourself entirely in locally made Winnipeg garb (although granted, you'd need to be barefoot). Now we just need someone to start making shoes for adults!
Jill of Tonychestnut is like that rad best friend whose closet you totally want to raid because she manages to pull off just about anything: a wool baseball cap with a fur pom pom? check; a crisp button up, jeans, and a flowy dress? done. And her pieces reflect that cool-girl style. Each of her items is like its very own pair of travelling pants - you don't understand how, but they look great on women of vastly different shapes and sizes.
For Lucky Girl, Jill will be bringing in more of the ever-popular Little Black Dress (if you manage to snag one, kudos) as well as its flirty sister the Little Summer Dress. She'll also be offering some of the pieces on her online shop in new colour options, including a few exclusive colours for the Lucky Girl sale. With a few exceptions, her pieces tend to be one size fits all.
Owner Christie is just like her wool accessories - warm, fun and inviting. She felts each piece by hand using bubble wrap, olive oil soap, hot water, and a whole lot of elbow grease. These are accessories like you've never seen - a cross between jewelry and apparel; made of wool, yet meant to be worn year round. One of her necklaces will give your whole ensemble intention and pop.
Christie will have a large selection of her wool hoop bracelets and necklaces available at Lucky Girl, in an array of vibrant colours. She also offers custom colour combinations through her website.
Sarah Cameron Jewelry - 35-100$
Sarah's pieces are delicate and pretty, but not so precious you feel afraid to wear them. Her perfectly feminine jewelry comes mostly in gold-fill, brass and pastel gemstones. On her Etsy shop, you'll see a number of different styles, but she'll have an even wider selection at the popup.
Just in time for spring/summer, Sarah will be bringing easy to slip on, boho-chic bracelets and pendants, using gemstones like aquamarine, amazonite, hoplite and blue chalcedony.

Alesha's approach to intimate apparel is a breath of fresh air in a world of ultra-tan, ultra-toned, airbrushed marketing. Her desire for inclusivity and acceptance comes through clearly in conversation about her work. Although she began designing with the female body in all its dimensions as her inspiration, she's also been in conversation with men and others who want to explore wearing lingerie to see how her underthings can meet their needs. In addition, she plans to offer customized variations on the colours she features in her lines to better accommodate people of various skin tones. That sense of acceptance and confidence comes through when you wear her pieces. They're truly a celebration of the female form in all its shapes, sizes and variations.
This will be your first chance to snag pieces from Alesha's brand new spring and summer collection.
