Travel Fantasies: A Central-American Adventure
I long for travel in waves that are often connected to seasonal shifts. And it's getting to that time here in Winnipeg when the trees are bare, the wind blows icy cold and snow threatens from the clouds. It's the not-so-pleasant bit of fall, and it's a time that always has me yearning for travel and adventure.
Unfortunately, when you work full time at a job you love and that job is teaching, it's not exactly feasible to get away. That's when I fall into fantasizing about another great adventure down the road. So over the next few weeks, I'd like to share a few of those travel fantasies with you.
First up is a Central-American adventure. Back in September of 2010, I spent five glorious weeks volunteering in Guatemala and had the time of my life. Ever since, I've wanted to go back and explore more of Central America.
I want to bask in the turquoise pools and explore caves by candlelight in Semuc Champey, revisit the breathtaking sights of Tikal, go on sensory overload in the markets in Chichicastenango, take surfing lessons on the beaches near San Juan del Sur,
drink cheap mojitos and dance the salsa
, marvel at breathtaking Catholic churches and iconography
,
brush up on my Spanish in exchanges with the locals
and stuff myself full of frijoles and platanas.
I have no idea when I will have the chance to do this again. But it's going to happen if it's the last thing I do.
What about you? Feel free to share your travel fantasies in the comments below!
