A Luxury Stay-cation
Chris and I have never been much for the hokey, big red hearts and roses kind of romance, and I'll take an inside joke over a sky message any day of the week, but we always use Valentine's as an excuse to give our relationship a little extra attention. This year, we decided to celebrate early (Saint Valentine be damned) and go all out with a lazy weekend at the Fairmont hotel.
The theme of the weekend was treat yo' self. We kicked things off with some shopping at Polo Park. Chocolate-covered strawberries and Prosecco were waiting for us when we arrived at the hotel. After a few glasses, we enjoyed a leisurely dinner at Brooklyn's Bistro. Then we headed back to the hotel for a steam and a swim; finally stretching out on that king-sized bed to flip through magazines and watch the Olympics.
The next morning, we ordered a lazy breakfast in bed and dozed. Even though we were a ten minute drive from home, there's something about staying in a luxury hotel that makes you feel worlds away. Chris joked we should do it every weekend. This was followed by conjecture on how long our bank account would hold under such conditions.
We checked out just before three, picked up the dog from his own hotel stay on the way home, and returned feeling totally relaxed and content. It's amazing how a luxury hotel can transform twenty four hours in your hometown into a getaway.
Happy Valentine's, Galentine's, annoying couple Friday, or whatever you choose to celebrate. To you Manitobans out there: enjoy the long weekend. You can expect my usual Monday post, despite Louis Riel Day.
